This is a really fun memoir about Tsh Oxenreider’s family trip around the world in a school year. Tsh is the name behind the blog The Art of Simple. Tsh, her husband, and their three kids backpack through Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe – and it’s every bit as interesting as it sounds. I so, so appreciated this memoir – I’m glad to read a story of a mother whose wanderlust doesn’t disappear as soon as she has kids and and house and a husband. And what fun that they take on the world as a family! Tsh has some interesting insight into the meaning of home and how it fits into our lives and identities, which I found especially interesting.
Sometimes the book read like a travel journal rather than a memoir – a little too much narration about the existential meaning of traveling and not enough action. I would have loved so much more about the daily ins and outs of traveling with three kids (all with their own backpacks).
I’d recommend this for anyone who feels wanderlust and the need to nest in equal measure. It’s a fun read, especially if you’re feeling the travel itch.
